April 20th, 1936The Director of Antiquities, Cyprus Museum, Nicosia.

Dear Sir,

Since it appears, from the preliminary inquiry made pursuant to the Order dated Mazette of 20[handwritten: th] March 1936 and published under Notification No.285 in the Gazette of the 27th March 1936, that the funds available would be inadequate to meet the cost of the transfer, under the provisions of Section 9, Antiquities Law, 1935, the whole area of the Ancient Monument "Site of Curium", from the Second Schedule -- wherein it is listed as Item 7, District of Limassol -- to the First Schedule to request and recommend acquisition of a limited portion of the area in question, as shown outlined in red on the plan hereto attached.

The area of which the acquisition is desired comprises plot No.45 and parts of plots Nos. 4 and 46 (Episkopi village) of Sheet LVIII-4 of the official L.R.Survey. It will be found defined by numbered stakes and landmarks, which the Guard of Antiquities at Curium can point out, as indicated on the accompanying plan.

In detail, the boundaries are as follows:

In LVIII-4-4: No.1: Lines 1-2, starting from stake 1, on the Paphos-Limassol highroad 1 [handwritten: 6] m ESE from Ancient Monument markers ... being in the line of Anc.Mon.markers bounda- ary between Nos.1 & 2, about 91m NW from No.2, a-b (the irregular boundary ... ) "a" at the SW corner of lot 46 & NW corner of 45, b-8, 8-9, 9-10 (along the edge of the bluff overlooking the Highroad), 10-11, 11-12, 12-13, 13-14, 14-15 (15 at the Highroad, 5m from stake 1) and 15-1.

In LVIII-4-46: i) starting from its NW corner: No.2, A.M.M.No.2 - stake 4, 4-5, 5-6, 6-7, 7-b, and b-a (boundary between lots 4 and 46).

Stamp: illegible

ii) starting from stake 16, about 150 m SE of stake 7, beside the path which divides lot 46 from lot 45: 18-19 (19 a large rectangular ancient block embedded in the earth), 17-18 (18 is a burnt carob-tree), 16-17, 19-20, 20-21, 21-22, 22-23 (23 a stake beside the path departing lots 46 & 45), 23-16.

In both these lots the area designated for expropriation includes mainly the least productive part of them, most of the better land being left to the owners in plots readily accessible either directly from the Paphos road or by the path that has from of old crossed the hill from SE to NW.

Yours very truly,
