April 20th, 1936The Director of Antiquities, Cyprus Museum, Nicosia.
Dear Sir,
Since it appears, from the preliminary inquiry made pursuant to the Order dated 20th March 1936 and published under Notification No.285 [handwritten: in] the Gazette of the 27th March 1936, that the funds available would probably be insufficient to meet the cost of the transfer, under the provisions of Section 9, Antiquities Law,1935, of the whole area of the Ancient Monument "Site of Curium", from the Second Schedule -- wherein it is listed as Item 3, District of Limassol -- to the First Schedule to the Antiquities Law,1935, I wish to request and recommend acquisition of the limited portion of the area in question shown outlined in red on the plan hereto attached.
The area of which the acquisition is desired comprises parts of plots Nos. 4, 46 and 45 (Episkopi Village) of Sheet LVIII-4 of the official L.R.Survey. It will be found defined by numbered stakes and landmarks, which the guard of Antiquities of Curium can point out, as indicated on the accompanying plan. In detail, the boundaries are as follows: -
i) In plot No.4, starting from stake 1, on the Paphos-Limassol highroad 136m ESE from Ancient Monument marker No.1, Lines 1-2, 2-3,(3 being in the line of Anc.Mon. markers Nos. 1 & 2, about 91m NW from No.2), 3-a, a-b (the irregular boundary between lots 4 & 46, "a" at the SW corner of lot 4 & NW corner of 46, "b" at the NE corner of lot 46 & NW corner of 45), b-8, 8-9, 9-10 (along the edge of the bluff overlooking the highroad), 10-11, 11-12 (along the highroad), 12-13, 13-14, 14-15 (15 at the side of the highroad, 5m E from stake 1), XX and 15-1.
ii) In plot No.46, starting from its NW corner: Lines a-Anc. Mon.Marker No.2, A.M.M.No2-stake 4, 4-5, 5-6, 6-7, 7-b, and b-a (boundary between lots 4 & 46).
iii) In plot No.46, starting from stake 16, about 150m SE of stake 7, beside the path which divides lot 46 from lot 45: Lines 16-17, 17-18 (18 is a burnt carobtree), 18-19 (19 a large rectangular ancient block embedded in the earth), 19-20, 20-21, 21-22-23 (23 a stake beside the path dividing lots 46 & 45), and 23-16.
iv) iv) In plot No.45, starting from its NW corner: Lines b-25, 25-24, 24-e (parallel with new field road 2.5m N of its centre), e-28, 28-29, 29-30-31 (31 at the S boundary of the lot), 31-26 (following the S boundary toward WSW and the W boundary toward NW to 26, beside the path dividing lots 45 & 46), 26-27-d, d-c (parallel with new field road, 2.5m S of its centre), c-23, and 23-b (along the path separating lots 45 & 46).
Yours very truly,
