March 17, 1936Dear Mr. Hill,

I have been very bad about writing you, I am afraid. I missed the last mail and now, apparently, there are no more boats for Greece (via Egypt) until Friday, [handwritten: a]the twentieth. I am sending this, however, by air mail with the hope that it may reach you a day or two before you sail. I hope you will forgive my being so poor a correspondent.

I saw Mr. Hilton at Nicosia last week. In regard to the the expropriation of the plots listed in the schedual, we both thought it adviseable to fix the [handwritten: closing day] for negotiating about the 18th of April. A notice will soon go into the Gazette to this effect, and two weeks from the appearance of this in the paper will be the closing day. Mr. Hilton said that, were you not able to stay here until then, I might act for you. The closing day might have been fixed for the 11th by rushing things a little, but I thought the later date might be better as it would give you a longer time to negotiate. Oxous's field, lot 4, has recently been mortgaged for [handwritten: £]200. Mr. Hilton said he had written you about this.

All is well at Episkopi and Curium. I began digging yesterday with Lazarus as foreman. George is now digging a Neolithic site with Dikias and so was not available.
