Medelhavsmuseet: Focus on the Mediterranean 1 (Stockholm 2004) is the first issue of the journal the Medelhavsmuseet launched to replace its Memoir, Bulletin and Skrifter series. The editor-in-chief was Sanne Houby-Nielsen, with Marie-Louise Winbladh and Karen Slej as assistant editors. The issue prints the papers of the colloquium "Museums in the Mediterranean Region: New Perspectives and New Concepts", held at the Swedish Institute in Alexandria on 14–16 October 2002, with follow-up contributions.

The Cypriot paper is Pavlos Flourentzos, "The Local Museum of Marion-Arsinoe at Polis (Paphos District)". The other papers deal with museums around the Mediterranean: Houby-Nielsen's introduction on cultural heritage and new challenges for museums, the new museums of Alexandria, the Kasbah museum at Tangier, the National History Museum of Romania, the archaeological museum of Patras, the Middle East Technical University Museum in Turkey, Islamic art collections and the Museum of Turkish and Islamic Art in Istanbul, the Medelhavsmuseet's own cooperation, and, among the follow-ups, museums in Alicante, Algiers, Alexandria and the Bardo.
