- 14 December 1878Recommended by C. T. Newton in a report to the BM Trustees as a competent archaeologist to be sent to Cyprus at the Foreign Office's invitation (Wolseley); mission cost put at no more than £1000 for the first twelve months. The Trustees ordered an application to the Treasury for funds.
- January 1879The Treasury refused the funds; Newton's follow-up report of 6 January 1879 argued for limited exploration (Kourion treasure chamber, c. £200) without a Pullan-led campaign. No Pullan expedition to Cyprus is recorded.
