    Czech pilgrim visiting Cyprus; saw the monuments of Famagusta and, near the prison of St Catherine at Salamis, many trenches and pits dug among the ruins by peasants from nearby villages hoping to find gold, silver, jewellery and coins, who were reported to have often found objects of great value
