Life and work

    In official discussions on amending the 1905 Antiquities Law, prompted by a Swedish proposal to excavate systematically on condition that a substantial share of finds be exported to Sweden, the Governor (Malcolm Stevenson) agreed with George Jeffery, Curator of Ancient Monuments, that illicit excavation was not widespread. The law was amended, leading to the four-year Swedish Cyprus Expedition.
