fl. 1519 · Switzerland

Life and work

  1. 1519
Swiss pilgrim passing through Cyprus on the way to the Holy Land; independently of the Venetian Francesco Attar (c. 1540), identified the ruins at Couvoucle/Kouklia as the sanctuary of the Paphian Aphrodite, whereas medieval pilgrims had located it at Kato Paphos (Saranda Kolones).

  2. 1519
Claimed to have seen a number of massive towers on top of a hill in the centre of Nea Paphos; Mlynarczyk takes these to be the towers of Saranta Kolones, while Vörös thinks they were the surviving columns of the temple.
