Hermann Historica

Grasbrunn / Munich, Germany · founded 1960s

Auction house near Munich, begun in Nuremberg as Graf Klenau oHG and run since 1982 by Wolfgang Hermann and Ernst-Ludwig Wagner, with antiquities among its departments and occasional Cypriot lots.

About

Hermann Historica began in Nuremberg as the firm of Count Erich Klenau von Klenova, which sold coins and medals before turning to orders and militaria; the house puts its start more than fifty years ago5. Wolfgang Hermann joined Graf Klenau oHG in the early 1970s and added arms and armour and antiquities5. In 1982 Hermann and Ernst-Ludwig Wagner took the firm over, renamed it Hermann Historica oHG and held its first sale on 6 March of that year5. Franz Hermann and Thomas Rief later became partners, and Forum Arte GmbH acquired the majority at the end of 20175. The company is registered as Hermann HISTORICA GmbH at Grasbrunn, near Munich7.

According to the house, it had about 40 staff and held two auctions a year until 2018; from 2019 it has held up to six, with online-only sales added in that year5. Antiquities is one of its departments, with arms and armour, firearms and militaria5.

Cypriot pieces appear as small lots in the general antiquities sales. A one-handled jug sold on 12 April 2010 as lot 66 for EUR 2002. Three vessels were lot 7588 on 22 June 2020, also at EUR 2001. On 30 January 2023 a statuette of a tympanon player sold with a Boeotian figure as lot 6048 for EUR 4003.
