Online auction house for ancient and ethnographic art in Louisville, Colorado, founded by Bob Dodge in 1993, with a steady run of Cypriot pottery, seals and limestone heads since 2011.

About

Artemis Gallery, later styled Artemis Fine Arts, says it has sold ancient and ethnographic art since 1993 from Louisville, Colorado, by appointment, and offers thermoluminescence authentication, restoration and display stands1. A trade press profile names Bob Dodge as founder, who started it part-time, and Teresa Dodge as executive director, with Elaine Jamieson as finance director and Phil Keck as vice president of operations, both co-owners2. The same coverage says the firm has sold only online, by auction, since 20102,3.

It states its fields as Egyptian, Greek, Roman and Near Eastern antiquities, together with Asian, Pre-Columbian and African and Oceanic art1. Cypriot lots appear in its sales from a Cypro-Archaic amphora in February 2011 to February 20265. Most are pottery: Middle Cypriot Red Polished jugs and juglets, Base Ring and other Late Cypriot bilbils, Late Cypriot III amphorae, and Cypro-Geometric and Cypro-Archaic bichrome flasks and jugs, mostly sold for USD 100 to 1,000. Stone cylinder seals were offered in groups in 2021, and there are alabaster alabastra, limestone bowls, terracotta votive heads and limestone votary heads. Others include a fish-form askos of Late Cypriot III, sold for USD 1,500 in 2018, and a Cypro-Archaic terracotta chariot group described as ex-Bonham's, sold for USD 1,800 in 20175.

The dearer lots carry pedigrees as the gallery states them. In September 2016 it offered a limestone head of a youth with a laurel wreath, c. 310 BCE, described as deaccessioned from the Metropolitan Museum of Art's Cesnola collection and published in 1885, with an estimate of USD 30,000 to 40,000; it was bought in, and sold in June 2017 for USD 10,0004,5. A painted Cypriot I tankard with an owl-like handle finial, described as "ex-Cesnola, ex-Museum", failed at USD 12,000 to 18,000 in May 2019 and sold for USD 5,000 in June 20205.
