The project
In March 2012 the Department of Antiquities of Cyprus was called to investigate tombs damaged by bulldozing on a construction plot at Vounaros1. Nine rock-cut tombs were identified, T.35, T.35A–F, T.36 and T.37, and the six tombs T.35A–F were almost completely destroyed1. T.35 was an intact ovoid chamber tomb with at least three individuals and eighteen catalogued finds, among them seven clay spindle-whorls, eight ceramic vessels and three picrolite discs; Polina Christofi, Elisavet Stefani and Luca Bombardieri date its pottery to EC III–MC I1. They date T.36 to the Late Hellenistic–Early Roman period1. For T.37 they identify an Early–Middle Cypriot first use and consider Hellenistic reuse possible1. The tombs are published in their 2015 paper "Bridging the Gap".
