Xylotymbou: rescue of a Hellenistic chamber tomb

In 1983 a rock-cut Hellenistic chamber tomb was uncovered at Xylotymbou, in a rescue by the Department of Antiquities of Cyprus¹. Its rectangular chamber had benches on three sides, where skeletal remains and funerary offerings were placed¹. Among the finds were several small unbaked clay plaques, rectangular or circular, with relief representations of the winged head of Hypnos; some kept traces of blue or yellow paint¹. V. Karageorghis reported the tomb in his Chronique des fouilles et découvertes archéologiques à Chypre en 1983, in the Bulletin de correspondance hellénique. The finds are recorded as MLA 1180, in the Larnaca regional museum¹.
