The project
A Cypro-Archaic tomb at Kokkalos, near the Skarinou relay, came to light in 1959 during construction of new road sections linking Nicosia and Limassol, and the Department of Antiquities carried out the rescue1. The tomb had a circular chamber and a vault that had collapsed in antiquity1. Its contents included Black-on-Red, Bichrome, Bichrome Red and Plain Ware vessels, two small Bichrome jugs of the type called "Phoenician jugs", which Karageorghis says were probably imported, and a black steatite amulet with an engraved linear motif1. The material is reported at the regional museum of Larnaca under no. 15491. Karageorghis published the tomb in his chronicle of discoveries for 1959 in the Bulletin de correspondance hellénique 841.
