The project
In 1956 the plough brought to light a Cypro-Archaic tomb-group at Ambélia, about 2 miles north-west of Morphou1. A. H. S. Megaw's annual report notes that many tombs in the locality had been looted long before, and does not say that this tomb was excavated1. The same report records a separate tomb at Ayios Phocás near Lefkoniko, struck by deep ploughing in an unrecorded cemetery1. Three vases were recovered from it, among them a large Bichrome IV amphora with a band of lotus flowers1.
