Maroni: rescue of a Cypro-Geometric III-Archaic I tomb, 1971
1971 · Maroni
A 1971 rescue excavation of a tomb near Maroni's present cemetery, with a Black-on-Red jug, an iron adze and an iron knife in its sheath.
The project
In 1971 a partly looted tomb in the village of Maroni, near the present cemetery, was excavated as a rescue for the Department of Antiquities1. Karageorghis's annual notice dates its contents to Cypro-Geometric III to Cypro-Archaic I and mentions a Black-on-Red I (III) jug with a long neck and trefoil mouth, an iron adze and an iron knife in its sheath1.
