The project
In 1955 James R. B. Stewart excavated five tombs at the Evriman cemetery, west of Vasilia village, where the tombs are spread over a large area1. Şevketoğlu identifies Evriman as an Early Cypriot cemetery of the Philia culture and describes the five tombs as unusual; she says the site is chiefly known for its tomb architecture1. She reports Stewart's explanation that the wide spacing of the tombs resulted from the geological features of the area1.
