The project
Roadworks southeast of Koshi, on the road to the Lympia landfill, brought to light a rock-cut tomb registered as MLA 1944, Tomb 79, and in 2008 Efthymia Alphas, Contract Archaeological Officer, carried out a salvage excavation for the Department of Antiquities1. The tomb had a stepped dromos and apsidal loculi to the right and left of the central chamber; a digger had removed almost all of the central chamber before the Department was notified, and the skeletal remains were very poorly preserved1. The report dates the finds to the Hellenistic period: 18 lagynoi, 7 jugs, 2 beakers, a clay lamp, 2 glass and 2 clay unguentaria, 2 glass beads, and sherds of glass and clay vessels1.
