The project
In 1966 the Department of Antiquities' Exploration section, which searched for new sites besides recording accidental finds, reported among its results a new necropolis at Alas, 5 km southeast of Gastria1. The notice dates the necropolis to the late Geometric to early Archaic I periods1. From a looted tomb came a White Painted IV jar, 26.4 cm high and 26 cm in mouth diameter, recorded as C.S. 1575; the notice gives no tomb number1.
