The project
In 1941 the British Army cleared Tomb 1 at Arpera-Mosphilos, already looted, for military purposes, and it produced over two dozen objects1. R. S. Merrillees, who published the surviving group in 1974 as Tomb 1A, assigns it to a late stage of Middle Cypriot III and describes a central dromos opening onto four chambers, A, B, Γ and Δ, the last without finds1. His catalogue lists for Chamber A Red Polished and White Painted wares, a wheel-made storage jar he identifies as imported from the Syro-Palestinian region, and three wheel-made El-Lisht Ware juglets (Nos. 14–16); it also records bronze rings, two bronze axes and a stone mace-head1.
