Terracotta Young Man Head

Terracotta head from a small figurine of a young man; hollow, possibly made with the use of a mould, but many details are modelled; modelled in the round, but the top of the head behind the fillet is rough and unfinished; he faces frontally, with an impassive expression; oval face, with naturalistic details, sharply defined nose and eye-sockets; he is beardless, but there are incisions on the chin and lip suggesting hair; the hair is rendered as a series of rough impressions in the clay, behind which is a fillet of leaves, only partly preserved; made of coarse buff clay, decorated with vivid painted detail: the skin is orange-red, while the backs of the eye-balls are green, with black eye-balls and lids; the hair is red, while the fillet is green. Dimensions: Height: 10.50 centimetres Object Type: figurine Techniques: mould-made (?); hand-modelled; painted
