Bichrome Askos

Bichrome Askos

Description:

Pottery spouted flask or askos in Bichrome ware; the zoomorphic body consists of two globular-biconical vessels set one on top of the other, each with separate handles at the back: the smaller upper part has a small flaring spout on top- a small hole on the front and surrounding broken surface indicate the existence of a front spout as well; the lower vessel has a long spout in front with a bulbous swelling towards the end; both parts have schematic wings and fans tails on the sides and back; three crudely made stump legs, two largely restored; made with orange clay and buff slip, decorated originally with red and black paint, traces of which survive on the body and inside the top spout.
