Horse Figurine with Handle

Terracotta horse figurine with handle on the back, possibly a toy; hand-made; long solid cylindrical body on four tapering legs, whose surface has been shaved with a tool; elongated neck and head with a crested mane (now broken at the end); loop handle on the back; end of tail is also missing; buff clay decorated in red and black paint: chequer-pattern on the body and neck, perhaps representing a cloth cover, maltese-cross motifs with hatched or solid black wings on the rump, short parallel strokes on the mane, details of eyes painted black, the small pellet ears in red, the ends of the legs and nose are solid black, black zig-zag on the handle.
