Base Ring Bull Rhyton

Pottery rhyton in form of a bull; coarse or over-fired Base Ring fabric; long, hollow cylindrical body with short legs; the front right leg has been restored; legs and body appear to have been trimmed with a sharp implement; traces of white painted bands, especially on underside of animal; upright horns bending slightly inwards; typical pellet eyes encircled by rings of clay; short tubular nose acting as a spout; a slightly arching strip of clay running the length of the nose may be a halter; breast-flat and tail rendered as simple ridge of clay; strap handle extends from middle of back to top of neck terminating in an opening, presumably for filling the rhyton or else a firing hole.
