Calculations of expenses. From Monday 20 s. (day of hiring our new workmen according to my decision) the excavations cost per day with c. 58 workmen (+ Mih. etc 3 women, 1 boy and 1 poincon.) + earth movement = c. 115 £ (according to Mihail's calculations) . In addition maintenance Miss. costs c. 8 x 1 £ = 8 £ + purchases of food etc. 2 £ ? 125 £ per day so allow 130 £ to be safe. Until 8 Oct. (Saturday) = 18 days of excavation we would spend 2340 £ more. Impossible we have only 1915 £ left By dropping the Saturdays (reserved henceforth for surveys) until 8 Oct. the excavations would cost 3 days fewer = 3 x 130 = 390, so 2340 - 390 = 1950. Still too much. We must stop earlier or reduce the number of workmen by 1/2 from Friday 30 September. ———— … continues
