Oct. 18.the sterile red earth covering the whitish, chalky rock. This floor is Middle Bronze, according to sherds on its surface and in its body. It seems to be overlaid by a second floor of the same nature and date. Then, a little higher, comes a thick floor of white, compact earth which seems to be the original floor of the fine building. (prob. corresp. to floor V of bldg. 18) The floors higher up and of more restricted extent are not yet certain. This large floor of the fine building extends as far as the N.-S. street of which one surface is at the same level exactly. Then a new surface of the street corresponds to the installations of the Iron. — Tuesday, 9th day of excavation. Onlyt part of the workmen are working; festival and fair at Famagusta. Continued excavation in the fine building, tr. J. 1+2. — Had photographed the south cut face which shows several layers of white limestone with sloping surface and which do not appear to be floors.
