General observations. It seems clear that the whole E part of the trench crosses an empty zone of the Mycenaean period of buildings. Was it a square, a large access road, a hippodrome? The few simple buildings of which we find traces, are seated fairly superficially on the sterile earth. Or was everything removed here down to the foundations? As there is no longer any trace at all, it is diff. to imagine. So an empty zone of constr. at the epoch Mycenaean and 2nd mill. in gen. seems at the present time the most likely. - This empty zone can be explained by reasons of security, distance of the important buildings from the cliff overlooking the town and from where the attackers could shoot; the buildings or the zone of the fine buildings uncovered in our Area N, the chant. Dikaios and the House of the Bronzes is indeed beyond the bowshot distance (c. m)
