Dear and honoured Herr Prof Your letter of 28. XI the m recent return expected has me made: that your France trip for the [illegible] examination of the early Bronze Age daggers was successful, Joffroy did not say no straight away and in spring the matter anew is being considered, and that you wish to help us again. The clay tablet I did not dare to send from Kehl, Maja Kim-Forrer therefore came to Strasbourg and will bring you the piece. May I ask for 2 casts? And for further help: an alphabetic tablet of the XIV-XIII cent. B.C. from Ugarit has been stolen by a workman and sold by a Lattaquie- antiquary to Beirut. I was able to acquire it there despite the high price, the Beirut antiquary had been known to me for many years and I had been able to help him several times when he received antiquities whose authenticity he could not establish. Now the Ugarit clay tablet acquired by him is still covered by the sinter that had formed over it after the fire of the palace. Could you treat the piece for me too? A cast would not be necessary. With warm Christmas and New Year greetings and wishes and [written sideways: hopefully until we meet again soon. Yours sincerely devoted]
