Unfortunately I myself shall already be away again after 5 or 6 October, as my excavations in Cyprus and Syria begin around 15 October, and so I shall miss your and Professor Hundt's visit to Paris and Saint-Germain. That is a great pity for me.

In conclusion, I would therefore recommend that you undertake the Vixdiscussion as an exploratory one, to give Joffroy time to reach a decision. If then at the end of November, after my return, the situation were not favourable, I could raise the question again with you. In any case, if Joffroy does not immediately take a positive view of the problem, I would not expect or even demand a decision from him . For once he is driven into a "no", he cannot go back. - That is all on Vix.

I am glad that during Dr. Karageorghis's visit to Mainz the question of casting the Enkomi (and possibly the Salamis) bronzes was discussed to the satisfaction of those involved. I have just written to Professor Hundt about the casting of the Byzantine gold and silver find from Lambusa, which Karageorghis promised me in Greece, where I had just met him, for Mainz. I await Professor Hundt's decision on whether he would like to undertake this.

Best thanks and greetings to Herr Ankner for the two prints of the photograph, which I had requested, and to yourself.

Yours very sincerely.

C.F.A. SCHAEFFER
