General Comment. — . Small group of latest offerings in tomb 6A detaches itself (jug 2 & white painted 3 + 73 suggests a date at very end of EC III) from the rest. Examination of the native pottery seems to place the bulk of the contents of the chamber, including Minoan vase (16) within the comparatively short period , well before the end of Early Bronze Age in Cyprus. Allowing for the minimum of lag between the making of the MM Ia vase in Crete and the discarding of it in Cyprus & time also for the MM Ia memorials to come out on the Cypriote hemispherical bowls, it is safe to say that Gjerstad , Early Cypriote III period did not begin before the Middle Bronze Age in Crete. This precise division of the Cypriote Early Br. Age worked out by the Swed. scholars will be modified to some extent to fit the recently available material from Dikaios & Stewart's excavations at Vounous, but the relative position of our group is already clear to indicate that the Cypriote Black Slip ware, for inst., very definitely postdates the beginning of Middle Minoan period , carried by Evans well up into XIth dyn. of Egypt. (PM I. p. 202) & also associated in date with reign of Hammourabi, because of Bab. cyl. found with MM Ia pott. at Platanos. - Tomb 6A provides crosscheck with Egypt. faience-beads , type appears in E. "as early as XIth dyn. but not before" (Gjers. Studies , p. 334). Also silver bowl reminiscent of 6A 135 was found in a XIIth dyn. treasury. Positive dates of this period (EC III) are questioned.
