Dear M.Plenderleith,
I was so happy to get your report and the photographs of the silvercup from Enkomi just before my departure to the Near East. First of all, let me thank you for the fine piece of restoration work of the cup which is an amazing achievement. I don't think nobody than you could have succeded in restorating the cup to its former splendor.
Your technical report will be a fine lesson to our technicians and I hope they will profit from your experience. I have sent it directly to the press that it may be composed without delay and added to the volume of the my new Enkomi discoveries now in course of printing. I asked the press to send you the proofs directly and one proof to Beyrouth. When you have red the proofs and corrected, please send the proofs back directly to M.S.Pacteau, Imprimeur, Luçon (Vendée), France. They will than be corrected and returned to you for final approuval.
The prints of the blocks illustrating your report will be sent to you by another firme. Keep these prints until you receive the final proofs. Than insert them in the proper place. These final proofs, I beg you to send me here at the above address.
In order that I can arrange the insertion of your report at the proper place, following my archeological report of the find, I would ask you to send me to Beyrouth, by air:
1. a copy of your manuscript of your technical report. If you have no copie available, send me please the original, when you get it back form the printer with the proofs.
2. An original print as well as a good enlargment to the original size of the cup of fig. I and III of the illustrations of your report.
3. A new photograph showing the cup from beneath with the whole decoration, as well as an enlargment same size than cup. These photographs shall be inserted in my archéological report and I hope to have good helio plates made from them. If you think t hat another photograph thanp those asked for under 3 may be useful, please have it hem made. I shall of course refund the expense.
We have been very careful when removing the cup during the excavations, for we notices immediately the inlay and the loose gold inlays. I dont think we missed anything, but I will reexamine the silverbowl in which the inlaid one was found when I return to Nicosia in a short time. I hope they have not yet washed the bowl meantime and I shal report to you.
