We have not yet been able to find the point where the enceinte joined the cliff which forms the eastern limit of the town. But from the attack, the enceinte makes a bend and extends a little in the northern direction. It must be admitted also that the cliff which overhangs the town and supported it at the sight of the sea side, must also have been crowned, with a wall. But on the rock which everywhere formed the surface, there remains no more trace. On the other hand, the cliff which still serves today as a quarry must have been considerably eroded over the centuries.

In the parts so far uncovered of the enceinte to the West, we have not found any certain traces of a gate. But at the western end of our excavations, a depression is outlined which could indicate the existence a little further on, of a gate or postern. Here too, we have cleared houses crossed by a lane parallel to the alignment of the rampart, fig. The two upper levels date from the period sub-Mycenaean; they rest on a Late Bronze level covering lower down a layer of remains of the final Middle Bronze which rests directly on the rock.

When the clearing of the enceinte of Enkomi will have been pushed further, it will be possible to proceed to the comparative study of similar works of Mycenaean Greece and those which we will not fail to find elsewhere on the Island. We will then also see to what extent Mycenaean military architecture influenced later works, such as those of Idalion so well studied by our Swedish colleagues.
