DEPARTMENT OF ANTIQUITIES OF CYPRUS.

Nicosia, 4 July, 1973.

Dear Mr Schaeffer,

I very much regret the delay in sending the photos you requested in your letter of 27 December 1972.

We had great difficulty in recognising the objects of the 1965 campaign which were in the laboratory. In August 1971 there was a great storm when the laboratory and the museum stores were flooded. All the furniture, the tables, the kiln, the refrigerator, were overturned and the objects mixed up or even damaged, while the labels with the inventory number disappeared. It was with a great deal of effort and patience that we were able to recover and identify a large number of these objects that were in the laboratory.

I am enclosing the photos of all the objects we have been able to identify as coming from the campaign of 1965. These photos do not bear the inventory number but only that of the area. Despite great effort I am unable to identify the objects myself, but it is possible that you may succeed yourself with the help of the inventory. In the meantime I continue the search in the hope of finding or identifying other objects.

Please present my respects to Mrs Schaeffer and believe, dear Mr Schaeffer, in the expression de mes sentiments et ceux de ma femme, les meilleurs.

K Nicolaou
