V.- PHOENICIAN SLAGS.-
The fracture of the sample is clean, colour red.
Analysis:
Oxidising medium loss on ignition .... II,35 Reducing medium loss on ignition .. I5,25 Silica (SiO2) ................... I5,70 Alumina (Al2O3) ................. I,73 Iron oxide (Fe2O3) ............ 70,27 Lime (CaO) ..................... 0,70 Magnesia (MgO) .................. traces Copper oxide (CuO) ........... 0 Phosphoric anhydride (P2O5) ... 0,II9 Total sulphur .................... I,20 Sulphuric anhydride (SO3) ...... 2,90
One may deduce from this analysis that of the probablely analysed material:
Loss on ignition ................... I2,27 Silica (SiO2) ................... I5,70 Alumina (Al2O3) ................. I,73 Iron oxide (Fe2O3) ........... 36,60 Iron oxide (FeO) ............. 27,30 Iron sulphate (SO4 Fe) ........ 5,66 Lime (CaO) ..................... 0,70 Magnesia (MgO) .................. traces Phosphoric anhydride (P2O5) ... 0,II9
We note the absence of tin, lead, nickel, of cobalt.
The absence of copper is curious; so one may hesitate to affirm that one is dealing with a slag resulting from the treatment of a sulphide ore of copper and iron. Perhaps one is dealing with a decomposed silicate iron ore.
VI.- ORE.-
This sample handed to Mr SCHAEFFER for being the ore currently worked contains only traces of copper. On the other hand, it is very rich in iron.
Analysis:
