I have just received your letter of 27 November. One can say, on analysis, whether the object was obtained with a carbonate mineral or a sulphide mineral. In objects obtained with a carbonate mineral, one finds neither iron nor sulphur, whereas if one uses a sulphide mineral one finds iron and sulphur more or less abundantly depending on the skill of the metallurgist. In Cyprus, I believe that the ores are sulphides; one must therefore expect to find sulphur and iron in all the samples examined.

Handwritten: illegible marginal note, faint, inverted

There seems to me no doubt that the samples you previously submitted to me: 7.514 - 7.396 - 7.297 - 7.351 - 4.506, coming from objects whose metal was obtained by treating chalcopyrite, consequently probably the ores of Cyprus or of the Anti-Lebanon.

I remain at your disposal for any information that may be useful to you. I hope to have the pleasure of seeing you soon in Paris, and in the meantime, asking you to convey here to Madame SCHAEFFER my most respectful homage, please accept, my Dear Friend, the sentiments of very lively sympathy.-
