Dear Mr Ambassador,

The Director of Antiquities of Cyprus considers that a discovery made during the excavations of the French Archaeological Mission at Enkomi- Alasia, because of its importance for the history of the country, cannot be kept secret for long because of inevitable indiscretions. He has asked me to draft a communiqué intended for the press and the Reuter Agency. - It is agreed with him that this communiqué will not be published before Saturday 12 October so that I have the time to inform the Académie des Inscriptions et B.L. at its sitting of Friday 11 Oct. and also the accredited press, including the Agence France Presse at Paris. — So that you may inform the Foreign Affairs (the Expéd. Archéol. Franç. of Cyprus is subsidised by the Direction Gle des Affaires Culturelles et Techniques, Commission des Fouilles /of which I assume the Vice-Presidency) if you judge this information useful, I take the liberty of sending you a copy of the communiqué of 12 Oct. whose distribution the Direct. des Antiquités de Chypre takes charge of.
