Famagusta, 29th November 1947.

Dear friend,

I thank you for having sent me the excavation credit for Enkomi, which arrived just in time to avoid an interruption of the work carried on in the interval thanks to an advance from Mr Lapierre.

We have had a very fruitful campaign, having uncovered the South enceinte of the town, a remarkable work with cyclopean masonry, square towers and walls 5m thick. In the North part we discovered a new quarter of the town, much better preserved, which allows us to study the organisation of an urban centre of an early period. In a cache made in a wall we found a very fine treasure of bronzes, which completes our knowledge of the armament and tools of the middle of the 2nd millennium.

The weather is still favourable and the few showers have hardly hindered us in our work. We shall be able to continue until the middle of December and I hope to embark the mission at that time, although opportunities are extremely rare owing to the delay of all the boats as a result of the strikes and all the other present difficulties.

I hope that next year we shall have the pleasure of your visit. Please present my respectful regards to Madame MacAgutte, and believe, my dear friend, in the assurance of my best sentiments.

Mr T.L. MacAgutte, Consul of France in the island of Malta and Cyprus.
