As you know, the political situation in Malta & Cyprus is still rather tense. I dream of a general consulate in the Pacific. That may perhaps come. For I feel a little cramped in Malta (I who was once such a great traveller) despite the continual presence of the English Fleet. Here life is rising so quickly that I fear strongly that the pound will fall in relation to the dollar (one speaks of 4 to 2 dollars 1/2 for a pound), but even this seems unheard of in relation to the franc, despite the fact that the latter is really very floating. The Maltese are Semites, very fanatically and fiercely Catholic, the Cypriots Orthodox (with some Muslims) This situation of consular deanship is on the whole for 2 or 3 years quite interesting, but Malta is very small. If you pass through Malta, let me know, I shall be delighted to see you and to receive you. Believe me, my dear friend, in the assurance of my best sentiments T. L. Mc Agutte
