… will be efficient since it will allow me to put in order all our finds. With regard to the Louvre, my date of return remains unchanged since I am taking the plane instead of the boat. The only notable point to report to you is the find of a cylinder seal made at Enkomi by peasants. This cylinder seal was bought by the Museum and Dikaios allows me to take an impression of it. Its style seems to me schematic and late, but the scene depicted is interesting, I can best describe it by telling you that it is that of the stela from Ras Shamra reproduced by you in "Cuneiform Texts" pl. 27. Another interesting object: a very fine fragment of a Syrian bichrome vase reconstituted with the help of pieces found in 1946 in the large area and which belongs to the largest vase Syrian, it seems, found so far in Cyprus. I took advantage of Megaw's car to make a trip with him to Kantara, where he was going to spend the weekend, and to Enkomi where we saw the area again in the company of the Arthur couple (Chief Commissioner) who wished to visit the excavations. Everything there seemed normal. The trenches cleared in 1946 are beginning to suffer from the weather; those of 1947 are holding up very well. Finally I wanted to point out to you that Dikaios and also Megaw seem to be waiting for a reply from you regarding your plans. I have nothing definite to tell them, but I have let them understand that the resumption of the excavations this year did not seem very probable to me. I believe that Dikaios would start a campaign before winter if he were sure that you did not wish, yourself, to precede him along this path. Nicosia is charming in this pleasant temperature, although it is impossible to obtain any issue of "Punch" there which disappears, it seems, before being put on sale! Please convey my respects to Mrsme Schaeffer, my friendships to the architects and believe in my respectful remembrance. I wish you a fruitful campaign at Ras Shamra. Etienne Coche de la Ferté
