Dear Mr Consul,
I have received your letter of 16 January and am pleased that your pupils have kept a good memory of the visit they made under your direction to our excavations at Enkomi.
Barclay's Bank has notified me of the transfer of L 138/6/6 which you kindly made to my account, and I thank you for it. This transfer corresponds to the grant of L.400 pounds allotted to me from the 1948 excavation budget by the Commission des Fouilles of the Direction générale des Relations culturelles, Ministère des Affaires Etrangères.
As a result of budget cuts, the grant, like that of all other missions, has had to be considerably reduced.
This year's grant will be used in part for the preparation of the publication of our 1946 to 1947 excavations and for the indispensable purchases of land, in which the Cyprus Antiquities Service participates for the mound. I hope nevertheless to be able to conduct a short excavation campaign this autumn, notably to complete the clearing of the very fine building which yielded us the small treasure of bronze objects. I therefore hope to see you again and look forward to it.
Please believe, dear Mr Consul, in the expression of my devoted sentiments.
Mr J. Lapierre, Consul of France at Larnaca, Cyprus. Island of Cyprus.
