Mr Mac Agutte, Consul of France in Malta and Cyprus, La Valetta, Malta.

Le Castel Blanc, 14 Rue Turgot, St.Germain-en-Laye, Seine et Oise. 20 March 1948.

Dear friend,

Here is an official reply concerning your reports on the Enkomi Mission. I hope that you no longer see any objection to the transfers of funds as they are carried out by the Cultural Relations after agreement of the Excavations Commission and the Controller of Committed Expenditure.

It happens that the grants remain for a long time in place before use, since excavation projects frequently undergo changes.

As for me, I was due to set out again for Cyprus on the Providence of 5 March. But the extra work at the Excavations Secretariat and on my publications has prevented me. I leave in August for Turkey and intend to come to Cyprus for a very short season of excavation in autumn. The grant has had to be considerably reduced.

I hope that you are well and that you enjoy more pleasant weather than that which greets us here at Easter. Please present my respectful regards to Mrs Mac Agutte, and believe, dear friend, in my cordially devoted sentiments.
