The Castel Blanc, 14 Turgot Street, St.Germain-en-Laye, Seine-et-Oise. 20 March 1948.
Dear Friend,
Here is an official reply concerning your reports on the Enkomi Mission. I hope you no longer see any objection to the transfers of funds as they are carried out by the Cultural Relations department after agreement of the Excavations Commission and the Controller of Committed Expenditure.
It happens that grants remain in place for a long time before use, because excavation projects frequently undergo changes.
As for me, I was to set out again for Cyprus on the Providence of 5 March. But the extra work at the Secretariat of Excavations and on my publications prevented me. I leave in August for Turkey and think of coming to Cyprus for a very short excavation season in autumn; the grant has had to be considerably reduced.
I hope you are well and enjoying weather more pleasant than that which greets us here at Easter. Please present my respectful regards to Mrs McAgutte, and believe, dear Friend, in my cordially devoted sentiments.
