3 January 1948

Mr J. Lapierre, Consul of France, Larnaca, Cyprus.

Dear Sir,

I thank you for your letters of 16 and 23 December, received on my return from Syria on the 25th of this month. I have at once forwarded, as you asked me to, three receipts to Barclay's Bank at Famagusta, and I hand you herewith a copy.

I also thank you for having sent to Mr MEGAW the sum of £ 118/15/0 for the land acquisitions and for having credited my account with the balance of £ 9/4.

In sending to Mr ARNAUD, Consul of France at Malta, the receipts, please thank him on my behalf for the promptness of his services in forwarding to me the credit for 1948.

Mr DIKAIOS has resumed the excavations at Enkomi in the sector which I ceded to the British mission with which, as you know, we now work in collaboration while keeping the scientific direction of the enterprise and that of the publications. My concern is to speed up the exploration of this large site without overloading the French excavation budget, which is solicited by so many missions and whose working possibilities I must secure with the support of the Excavations Commission and the credits of the Cultural Relations of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.

I seize the opportunity to send you, as well as to yours, my very cordial wishes for the year that has just opened, and the expression of my most distinguished regard.
