Enkomi

3 January 1949

Mr J. Lapierre, French Consul, Larnaca, Cyprus.

Dear Sir,

Thank you for your letters of 16 and 23 December, received on my return from Syria on the 25th of this month. I have promptly forwarded, as you requested, three receipts to the Barclay's Bank at Famagusta, and enclose a copy for you.

I also thank you for having sent Mr MEGAW the sum of £ 118/15/0 for the land acquisitions, and for having credited my account with the balance of £ 874.

When sending the receipts to Mr ARNAUD, French Consul at Malta, please thank him on my behalf for the promptness of his services in getting the 1948 credit through to me.

Mr DIKAIOS has resumed the excavations at Enkomi in the sector I ceded to the British mission, with which, as you know, we now work in collaboration while keeping the scientific direction of the enterprise and that of the publications. My concern is to step up the exploration of this great site without overly burdening the French excavation budget, which is solicited by so many missions and for whose working possibilities I must provide with the support of the Commission des Fouilles and the credits of the Cultural Relations at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.

I take this opportunity to send you and yours my most cordial wishes for the year that has just opened, and the expression of my most distinguished consideration.
