24th November, 1949

Handwritten: Dear Schaeffer,

Thank you for your letter of 20th November enclosing your cheque to cover Mikhail's wages to the end of the year for which an official receipt (Form F.18) is forwarded.

I have decided that the best results will be obtained if he continues to work at the Khan. He has therefore decided to bring his family from Enkomi. To ensure satisfactory progress I have arranged for George Anastassiou to work with him full-time so long as he is there. In this way I very much hope that all the mending will be done by the end of the year.

I have received from Pironin the revised plan for the additions to the house at Enkomi. I shall call for tenders and let you know the result in due course.

The enclosed letter from the commanding officer of the man who made himself so objectionable at Enkomi in your absence suggests that he is a habitual trouble-maker; but this does not make it any less regrettable that your excavations should have been disturbed by such an unpleasant incident.

You are getting 4 of Petrakides' seals and, as requested, impressions of the remainder. Of the latter we are buying now the inscribed one, the price of which we can afford. The others we hope to get

Dr.C.F.A.Schaeffer, Beirut.
