Dear Director,

I am pleased to acknowledge receipt of your kind letter of the 13th, which has just been handed to me (17th.). In accordance with your wish I am sending you the sum of £ 994.11.6, the amount of the telegraphic transfer made by the Consulate of France in Malta, by a cheque on the Barclays Bank No. C9/402877.

I am happy to learn of the good result of your campaign, and I share wholeheartedly in your satisfaction. Nothing could be more pleasing to you than to see emerge under the spade and pick of your workmen the remains of a city of which you are the sole "discoverer". I should like to be able to take advantage of your so kind invitation, and I am going to do everything possible to come to Enkomi-Alasia before your departure for Damascus. Perhaps I shall be able to come next Saturday in the afternoon. I shall confirm this plan by telephone 48 hours beforehand.

I think you are still at the Hotel King George. I think I shall have a chance of reaching you on the line if I try a little before mealtime, especially in the evening.

Please accept, I beg you, Dear Director, the assurance of my very high consideration.
