Le Castel Blanc, 14 Rue Turgot, St.Germain-en-Laye, (Seine et Oise). 21st February 1949.
A.H.S. Megaw and P. Dikaios, Cyprus Museum, NICOSIA.
Dear Megaw and Dikaios,
I reply to your letters of the 3rd and 8th february for which I thank you.
1. I am ready to publish with Dikaios a joint article in the Illustrated London News on the lines you mention. Dikaios may send me as soon as he is ready, his contribution and the photographs he wishes to be reproduced. I shall add my contribution and send the article to London. The fee will go half to your expedition fund, half to mine. I shall ask for 40 author copies and have half of them sent to Dikaios, who should [handwritten: tell] how he wishes his name and title announced. I am sending you a copy of my part of the text. Dikaios knows that the Illustrated L.N. prefer a short text and rather long explaining captions.
2. I am glad you accept my program for Enkomi I. Dikaios contributes a final study on his statuette and a provisional report on his 1948/49 work and finds. Manuscript should be ready beginning june or if possible, preferably earlier.
3. O.K. for Megaw and I writing an introduction. Duassaud's name shall be added on the title-page.
4. I have found out by recent experience (I am printing Ugaritica II at present) that the costs are still lower here than in Oxford and the work quicker done. As soon as possible, I shall give you an estimate of the cost of printing. At present the best way is to pay for the whole production and ask a good publisher to undertake the sale, advertisement and the general business in exchange for a 50% share of the salesprice. The other half would go to you and us in prorata of the respective financial contribution. Of course, a certain number of complete copies will go to your Department. Details will be worked out later when the general lines are fixed.
5. The Secrétaire Perpétuel has asked me to prepare Dikaios' report and mine for the Academy for April 1st. Length of Dikaios contribution: 10 minutes speaking time. Enlarged photographs and plans to be shown, which could if he wishes, be reused for the article in the Ill.L.News.
I hope the bad weather is over in Cyprus. Here spring weather is coming in and we are looking forward that the cold is definitely over.
