The French Consular Agent at Larnaca To Mr Claude F.A.Schaeffer, Directeur de Recherches Centre National de la Recherche Scientifique

ANKARA

Sir,

By letter of 16 August received last evening you kindly informed me of your forthcoming arrival in Cyprus and asked me to place at your disposal at the Barclays Bank in Nicosia the sum of £ 750 to be drawn against the credit of £ 2750 opened for you by the Direction Générale des Relations Culturelles.

Handwritten: 2694/8/4 annotation, left margin

In reply I have the honour to inform you that by telegram of the 20th inst. Monsieur the Consul of France at Malta informs me that he has just transferred from the Barclays Bank in Malta to the Barclays Bank in Nicosia, to my order, two sums: £ 2708 and £ 42, i.e. in effect £ 2750 in total, which I must hand over to you on your request, less the bank's charges.

Handwritten: 2708 / 2690 / 12 / £ annotation, left margin

To avoid issuing multiple receipts and going back and forth between Nicosia and Larnaca, I am writing today to the management of the Barclay's Bank in Nicosia to keep this credit at your disposal. I shall simply ask you to kindly accept to sign a receipt for this sum (in triplicate) at the moment you take responsibility for it.

Handwritten: 2750 / 2690 / 66 annotation, left margin

I am sending a copy of this letter to Mr Dikaios so that, should this letter not reach you at Ankara, you may be immediately informed upon your arrival.

Please accept, Sir, the assurance of my very high consideration.
