MALATYA EXPEDITION

Ankara, 12 July 1946.

My dear Friend,

A letter from my daughter tells me of the arrival at St.Germain of your reply, and I am glad to learn that your brother was able to return by his own means. I am pleased to make his acquaintance and to have his help if he can assist us at Enkomi.

I arrived here a few days ago and hope to be on the site in a few days. I have lost a little time because of the strikes etc in Syria, but I will not stay here beyond the end of August. We will then take either the plane or a Turkish boat for Cyprus.

We will therefore be ready to reopen the excavations at Enkomi from the beginning of September. It will still be hot then at Enkomi, but unfortunately I cannot delay the campaign, for I must finish the work by the middle of October to go and reopen Ras Shamra when the Syrians have given their agreement. At the beginning of November, I must leave Syria, to be back in Paris, we are expecting, I think I told you, a baby.

I would be glad to have news from you here, my address is c/o Embassy of France (Ankara).

Please present my respectful regards and remembrances to Madame Dikaios and believe me, my dear friend,
