Dear Sir,
Following our telephone conversation last week, here is the information connected with the bronze bowl from Cyprus. This bowl with an encrusted gold pattern has been found during the French excavations at Enkomi which are now combined with the Franco-English Expedition sponsored jointly by the government of Cyprus and the French National Center of Scientific Research (see the illustrated London News, 20 August 1949, p.278).
The delicate cleaning and restoring of this bowl will be undertaken in the laboratory of the British Museum. The Director of Antiquities of Cyprus, Mr. A.H. Megaw, informs me that he has asked the British Embassy in Paris to take the bowl for conveyance by safe hand to the British Museum. He asked me to get in touch with the Chancery for this purpose.
I would be glad if you would give me a telephone call as soon as you want the little box brought for transfer, approximate size: 400mm x 300mm x 150mm.
I would like to remind you that the British Embassy has already undertaken two years ago to convey to the British Museum a precious ivory box.
Since I am returning to Cyprus in approximately two months, I would like the sending to take place before then.
Yours very truly,
Director of the French Expedition to Cyprus.
