serve both as proof of the date of the compound and as reminders of the historical background against which the compound should be viewed. The other vases found in the same deposit under the hearth of room XIV recall types found at Sinda by Dr. Furumark (A3A, vol. III, pl. XVIII) which he attributes to the Mycenean IIIC: 1b style of the twelfth century B.C. This pottery corresponds to the Granary style at Mycenae but according to Furumark is of local manufacture. Its presence indicates that the connections of Cyprus with the Mycenean world continued in the twelfth century.

In room X+IX where we traced earlier remains below the floor we distinguished first the stage which preceded the erection of the compound and then the introduction of an extraneous fill which contained some early pottery. But in the same fill, which underlay the first real floor in the room the Philistine seal was found and also some Mycenean IIIC: 1 sherds which are a clear indication of the date of the construction of the buildings. Similar evidence comes from the rooms (VI and III) of the South Building.
